LITTLE EGG HARBOR POLICE DEPARTMENT
On Saturday January 30, 2010 at approximately 8:55 am, Ptl. John Kelly Jr. was on routine patrol when he located an unoccupied vehicle left running by the first bridge on Great Bay Blvd. Closer inspection revealed that the vehicle was unlocked and a cell phone was located inside of it. The Officer used the victim's cellular phone to contact the victim's father. The victim's father stated that the vehicle belonged to 39 year old Donald Reighn Jr. from Hadden Heights New Jersey.
K-9 Officer Matt Pretty was dispatched to the location to assist with the search of the victim. At approximately 10:20 hours Lt. Johnson and Detective Mancine arrived on scene and as the tide was going out they located footprints in the mud in front of the vehicle leading out to the water. Reighn's body was located submerged approximated 30 feet in front of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead a short time later by the Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office. Additional agencies assisting with the investigation were Ocean County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigation Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Medial Examiner's Officer, and members of the West Tuckerton and Tuckerton Fire Companies Dive Teams.
The investigation is ongoing however at this time Reighn's death does not appear to be suspicious.
